Analog Environments

TREX Rover in Northern Arizona

The TREX team completed the first field campaign in November 2021 after several delays due to COVD. We used our knowledge of spectral characteristics of candidate materials (based on our laboratory studies) out into the field, to test algorithms for sample identification and selection, and to understand how our tools can help to make future exploration more efficient.

We explored two sites in Northern Arizona (one outside of Flagstaff and one outside of Tuba City), analog environments similar to those on the Moon and on small bodies (asteroids) and performed simulations as in robotic and future human spaceflight missions.

We invite you to watch a short film about our first field season.
